Mary says:

This is Maji, my 21 year old appaloosa mare. I was letting the horses into another pasture and usually they cavort and gambol about abit when I do that so I had my camera with me. But it's so hot they just slowly ambled along and I got this nice profile shot of Maji. I selected her out, put her on a solid black background, then layered a rusty texture over that and layer masked until I had the look I wanted. A bit of a frame and done.

Bill says:

Hocking Hills State Park, south of Columbus, Ohio, has several waterfalls. This one is called Cedar Falls which I recently shot. These falls are dependent on rain and we haven’t had a lot lately so it’s small, but I thought big enough for this challenge. The top of the falls was modified to create sufficient room for the bottle and arm, which were added as a separate photo along with the sky.

I am amazed that P/S could blend my 5 photos! No tripod. . ., camera on ground, and expected waves to blur. I could not get content aware to work so used P/S clone stamp, esp on the closest bottle top. LRC cropping to eliminate jagged edges; min other adjustments.

We don’t call it a challenge for nothing. This week was super challenging. I arrived in Denver at the VRBO in which we will be taping I was able to finally manage something as weak as it might be. This is a small 15” vase on a coffee table about 10’ from the lamp.

This little tree is located in a field close to my house. Something about it continues to entice me each season. In the spring it's surrounded by long green grasses, but they die quickly when the weather warms. Then the field gets mowed to help prevent fires.

Ansel Adams took many photos of trees and I thought it befitting to use lone tree.

Stacked up a few of my grandmother's antique teacups to address this week's challenge. Blasted flash through the white background paper to create the silhouette and masked the background as if it were a sky in Lightroom. Fun to do. Appreciate any comments.

Was in Knoxville on the way to DC when we happened upon this alley and mural. The color contrast between the mural and dark alley were great. Then on the ground is a line of stones leading towards the sunlight.

In Indianapolis we were able to visit the Eidlejorg Museum - Native American paintings and art by Native American artists. It was grand. Here, I tilted the camera to emphaize the main leading line of the platform - but also the other supporting lines taking us through the opening.

One of the fun images I saw by Ansel Adams in San Francisco was of barn wood - close up - not abstract, but not as far back as my shot here. So instead of a grand landscape, I attempted to edit this with a high contrast and rather 'sharp' vibe. There is a bit of humor here if you can find it.

This is an up-close shot of the back of a fig leaf hanging in our yard. I tried using two different lenses this week (my Canon RF50mm F1.8 STM macro lens and my Canon RF100-400mm F5.6-8 is USM zoom lens), and found I could actually get a closer shot with my zoom lens zoomed in all the way (still trying to figure out why that was). I also did start with my tripod, but struggled to get it just right when shooting up into a tree and I had to increase the shutterspeed anyways because there was a slight breeze. I definitely learned the difficulties of shooting up close - any movement at all and your no longer in focus, or framed how you intended. I do like how this turned out, though it was originally a little dark. I am most proud of my tight framing, especially with the left arm of the leaf just barely kissing the edge.

The weather this week was not the best for getting an outdoor silhouette so I did an indoor one. I placed this angel figurine in front of the window and I hung a piece of crinkled sheer fabric to disguise the light coming in from the window and the background. I edited the photo in the Distressed FX app to make the background a little better.

This is a Mayan figurine estimated to be about 500 CE. I attempted to avoid the face so that the hands would dominate. This was taken at the DeYoung museum in San Francisco

This started as rain drops on a red tail light on a red car. I then duplicated the image, enlarged the copy and rotated the copy 90°. The two were then blended. The final step was edited in Prisma app with Blossom
