We had a first day of warm spring weather last week so I took a long walk to explore a neighbourhood near downtown Montreal. This is an old factory near the canal which was converted to individual workspaces. The window in the middle had some sort of reflective coating and even though this side of the building was in shade it was very bright. There are lots of deatils to be seen in other windows but this one remains a mystery.

We are currently on a road trip through Arizona and New Mexico.  Many buildings in this area of the country are decorated with large colorful murals.  This shutter zoom is of a mural on a restaurant wall in Wilcox , AZ which is in the southeast corner of the state.  The beautiful young woman in the mural is wearing a bearskin shawl  with the bears head  still attached as the hood.  If you look closely you can see the bears nose and teeth above her forehead.

Survivor – For this week’s assignment, my very first subject choice turned out to be the one I chose to submit for the class. After several different compositions and locations, this is the one I kept coming back to. Once again, it is proving time after time that familiarity with your environment is your friend. I had seen this tree many times. It is right near the lot where I park my car when I go biking. It has always stood out in my eyes because it is the only tree on that grassy field. For now, it has survived the effects of progress and has not been cut to make room for another sports field. Now, since this is an urban park, I had to be very careful to compose my photo such that I would eliminate power lines and other signs of civilization. I am loving the fact that I am paying more attention to things in my viewfinder before I make the photo. I walked around the tree and paid attention to the shadows I wanted and also the things I did not want in the photo. There is no cropping whatsoever in this photo. I used the Basic panel for black and white conversion and overall tone adjustments. I only used four localized masks to even out the skylight and bottom third of the photo. It helped that the sky was cloudless.

My birthday was this week and Hugo purchased a decanter for whiskey. It has beautiful cut glass and I placed this in front of some multi colored handled fabric.

I took crumbled/wrinkled white tissue paper and placed it under a red lamp that sits on a wooden chest. I did a double exposure in-camera - both panned left and right. I had other images that were more smooth, but this still shows some wrinkles (which I like). I've done these double exposure panned "landscapes" before, but this was a first on a somewhat small scale. I like how the wood gives a sense of a flat field and the gentle mountain peaks under the fiery sky.

I have spent so much time thinking about this week’s image, True Colours is a favourite song and I am a fan of Cyndi Lauper and in normal times I would have had lots of wacky ideas. But this is the idea I kept returning to, a one-woman tribute to the people of Ukraine especially the women and the creatives.

I apologise if this is considered a political statement.

A feather I picked up on a walk last fall. Placed on a white background with lighting from a lamp spotlight. After LR adjustments in Basic, Gradient Mask on the corners to bring out the blue tone (it was a muddier brown/blue color).

I like playing with water, glasses and funky backgrounds. I had a little trouble trying to shoot this with my iPhone. I had to watch where I positioned the camera or I would distort the top of the glasses!For the most part I think it turned out pretty good. After doing some cropping I applied a Toon filter from the BeCasso app.

This is a piece of art glass that lives on a shelf in my dining room. I really like the colors and the pattern and then the opening at the top really made a big impact. So I like this for this weeks challenge… Glass

For 25 years I have worked with multicolored hand dyed fabrics. They have been a major part of my artistic identity and a primary income generator. Covid took that away. But dyeing is back on a limited basis so I opted to celebrate that fact with this photo. The manipulation is a mirror montage.
