A New Bernina Arrives On My Doorstep

1230 bernina

That's right, I have a new sewing machine. Well, not new, but new to me. I am now the proud owner of an old Bernina 1230. This machine is known as a war horse and I've hoped to get one for years. However, this is not just any old 1230.

Recently Catherine Anthony, the mother of renown quilter Libby Lehamn, passed away. The machine that has come my way belonged to Catherine and I consider it a treasure. You can see her name fading on the lower right of the machine.

Do you have an older machine that you swear by?  - and still use?

  • I am working my way up to a Bernina but am currently the owner of a number of Singers. My workhorse is a Singer Quantum L-500 (which is essentially a Janome Quest re-packaged). I was recently given a 1957 Singer 99K which I absolutely adore. What a wonderful machine for paper piecing! Also makes the best straight stiches. This will definately be a machine I turn to for many years.

  • As a longtime Bernina addict, I trust in my reliable oldies, the 1010 and the 1230 -- no unnecessary extras ( Schnickschnack !), easy to keep in good condition ...... you'll love yours too.

  • I have 3 Bernina 1260's. It is my favorte machine. Very much like your 1230. I keep one set up in my studio, one read for teaching & travel, & one for back-up, just in case I have a problem with one!
